SAN JOSE, California - San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the team has signed unrestricted free agent forward Eriah Hayes to an entry-level contract.
Hayes, 24, served as a team captain for Minnesota State University of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association in 2012-13, ranking second on the team in points (20-16=36) in 41 games. He was an All-WCHA Third Team pick after posting 12 power play goals, which ranks second in the nation. Hayes' 20 goals ranked him 12th in the nation, while his 186 shots on goal led the nation.
"Eriah has had an outstanding collegiate career under the tutelage of both Mike Hastings and Troy Jutting, along with their staffs, and we are excited to add him to our prospect pool," said Wilson. "His leadership this season as one of the team captain's is something we feel will help him with his professional development, and we are excited to be a part of that process."
In 153 collegiate games, Hayes posted 96 points (52 goals, 44 assists) with 245 penalty minutes. He leaves MSU with 25 career power play goals, tying him for fourth all-time at MSU.
The six-foot-four, 210-pound native of La Crescent, Minnesota played one season in the United States Hockey League for the Waterloo Black Hawks before joining Minnesota State.
