The Report from Worcester is a weekly update on the San Jose Sharks AHL affiliate, the Worcester Sharks.

Sharks Snap Shot:

The Worcester Sharks (7-6-1-1, 16pts) chomped out two of a possible four points in a relatively quiet week of hockey action. The Sharks won their third straight road game with their third come-from-behind victory of the season in a 4-2 win over the Pirates in Lewiston, Maine on Wednesday. The Sharks dropped a tough 2-1 decision to the Connecticut Whale in front of 5,098 at the DCU Center on Saturday to close out the week 1-1-0-0.

The Worcester Sharks player of the week nominee is defenseman Matt Irwin. Matt recorded two points (1-1-2) , was +2, and fired six shots on goal in two games last week for the Sharks.

Top 3… Last Week

  1. Brodie Reid returned to the lineup after missing the first 14 games of the season with an injury and scored on his first shot on goal with a terrific play on Saturday in the Sharks 2-1 loss to the Whale.
  2. Alex Stalock won his seventh straight start with 20 saves on Wednesday and made 21 saves in a tough 2-1 loss to the Whale on Saturday.
  3. Matt Pelech blocked several shots all weekend, was +1, and picked up his team leading 4th fighting major vs. Mark Louis on Wednesday.

11.14.12 – Worcester 4 – Portland 2 – W – Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston, ME
The Worcester Sharks (7-5-1-1, 16pts)scored three third period goals and came-from-behind for a 4-2 victory over the divisional rival Portland Pirates (5-5-1-1, 12pts) at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston, Maine on Wednesday night. Goaltender Alex Stalock improved to 7-0-0 in his last seven starts with 20 saves and Sebastian Stalberg, James Sheppard, Tim Kennedy, and Matt Irwin scored goals in the win for Worcester. The Sharks scored two goals in 68 seconds midway through the third period to cap their AHL leading third win when trailing after 40 minutes.

11.17.12 – Worcester 1 – Connecticut 2 – L – DCU Center
Brodie Reid registered the lone goal in his season debut for the Worcester Sharks (7-6-1-1, 16pts) in a 2-1 loss against the Connecticut Whale (6-7-1-0, 13pts) on Saturday night in front of 5,098 fans at the DCU Center. Cameron Talbot picked up the win in net for the Whale, stopping 23 of 24 shots that he faced. Brodie Reid, Freddie Hamilton, and Brandon Mashinter each had one point for Worcester in the loss, while Chris Kreider and Ryan Bourque notched the goals for the Whale, as Worcester fell to 4-3-1-0 on home ice at the DCU Center. Alex Stalock played solid in net for Worcester, allowing two goals on 23 shots.

The Sharks are swimming in 1st place with 16 points (7-6-1-1) in the Atlantic Division through 15 games, which is 1 point ahead of the 2nd place Manchester Monarchs (15pts in 14gp), two points ahead of the 3rd place St. John’s IceCaps (14pts in 15gp) and Portland Pirates (14pts in 15gp), and three points ahead of the 5th place Providence Bruins (13pts in 14gp) to round out a very choppy Atlantic Division.
