• In 2013-14, De Leo tied for second on Portland with 39 goals and finished fourth with 81 points. He added 19 points (10-9—19) in 21 playoff games as the Winterhawks advanced to the Western Hockey League final for the fourth straight year.

• De Leo’s rookie season with Portland saw him tally 14 goals and 30 points in 69 games, earning co-Rookie of the Year honors for the Winterhawks along with Nic Petan (selected 43rd overall by the Winnipeg Jets in the 2013 NHL Draft). In his sophomore season (2012-13), De Leo racked up 56 points (18-38—56), highlighted by a five-assist game versus the Spokane Chiefs on Feb. 18, 2013, the first such performance by a Portland player in more than 16 years.

• A product of the Los Angeles Selects minor hockey program, De Leo led the Bantam AAA team to the national championship game in 2009-10, tallying 83 points (27-56—83) in 28 games.

• A native of La Mirada, Calif., De Leo first played tee-ball before his mother switched him to roller hockey, where he started as a goaltender: “I started through roller hockey, learned how the game worked and stuff. Then I got into ice hockey when it started growing and getting more popular.”

• His family owns a number of animals including horses, ponies, pigs, dogs, and a donkey.

• De Leo contemplated the collegiate route but opted to join the Winterhawks after being persuaded by former Winterhawk and current Columbus Blue Jackets forward Ryan Johansen: “[Johansen] messaged me every day on Facebook. He said, ‘Get your butt up here and stay at my house.’ So I flew right up and I lived with Johansen [during Portland’s 2011 playoff run].”
