By Frank Albin - Director of Broadcasting / The Daily Chomp

Well it was a bit late in coming, but Sunday will mark the start of the 2012-13 season for the San Jose Sharks.
Due to the work stoppage this year the NHL will play an abbreviated 48 games schedule vs only Western Conference foes. The Sharks will be playing 48 games in just 97 days. Every game will be a 4-point swing and teams must be ready to play after a very brief training camp. Any team that gets off to a slow start will have a devil of a time trying to climb the ladder to a top 8 playoff position. More than ever before the shootout format could very well determine who makes the post-season.

On the Sharks side, there could be some factors that they can use to their advantage. The club is virtually the same squad as last season with the addition of free agents defenseman Brad Stuart and gritty veteran forward Adam Burish. The Sharks had 12 players who played competitive hockey while the NHL was on ice. So far in this short training camp several young men from Worcester could make it difficult for coaches to get a final roster in place for this weekend.

The Sharks broadcast team is rested and ready to bring Sharks fans the best coverage ever. CSN California will air 47 of the 48-game schedule. NBC/NBC Sports Network will carry the season closing game on April 27th vs the Cup champion LA Kings at Staples Center. No change in announcers. Randy Hahn and Drew Remenda will call the game with their combination of insight and humor. Brodie Brazil will be the show host at home games and will anchor the pre and post-game shows on road games. Bret Hedican will make a number of cameo appearances ‘inside the glass’ at HP Pavilion as well as a mainstay on Sharks Pregame Live. Former Sharks centerman Jamie Baker will be a regular CSN contributor.

CSN will continue to bring Bay Area fans as close as possible to the game and team they love. All games are in high definition. We will have cameras in the dressing room, in-game interviews on the bench and interviews with star players. Your team’s magazine show ‘Shark Byte’ is back again this season. Get to know the players and coaches on and off the ice.

Dan Rusanowsky will again anchor flagship station KFOX and the Sharks radio network broadcasts. Jamie Baker will offer his insight and analysis, often stationed at ice-level where the game gets real.

SJSharks.com is your go-to site for everything Sharks. In addition to great team reporting, there is always fresh video with player preview and reactions as well as post-game comments from Sharks coaches. Then there is always the fan favorite ‘Hockey Hot-Stove’ segments.

The puck drops this Sunday at 3pm from chilly Calgary, followed by a Tuesday night game in Edmonton. The home opener is Thursday the 24th vs the Pacific Division Champion Phoenix Coyotes.

Are you ready? The Sharks broadcast team is.
