The San Jose Sharks selected defenseman Mike Rathje with their first selection in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft. Rathje made his NHL debut for the 1993-94 season and the native of Alberta, Canada would go on to play 11 seasons with the Sharks. Plaguing injuries shortened his career after moving on from the Sharks, but in his final three seasons in San Jose, Rathje averaged five goals and 17 points and was a plus-22.
