To celebrate Sharks history, each week we will highlight moments of the past. So check back to the Daily Chomp each week to celebrate with us for Throwback Thursday. In addition, we will be giving away special Sharks throwback items every Thursday.

This week the Daily Chomp takes a look at the Sharks 2008-09 season.

Did you know... the Sharks won their first Presidents’ Trophy while setting franchise records for wins (53), home wins (32) and points (117).

More from that year:
  • Todd McLellan hired as head coach on June 12, 2008.
  • Acquired LW Travis Moen and D Kent Huskins from Anaheim in exchange for C Nick Bonino, G Timo Pielmeier and a fourth round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft on March 4, 2009.
  • Under rookie Head Coach Todd McLellan, San Jose gets off to the best start in National Hockey League history by recording 52 points (25-3-2) through the first 30 games. The Sharks set a franchise standard by going undefeated (20-0-2) in their first 22 home games while extending a streak from 2007-08 by not losing in regulation for 31 straight games (28-0-3).
  • As a team, San Jose ranks among the NHL’s top-five in road power play percentage (28.2 — No. 1 and club record), overall power play (24.2 — third), 83.3 penalty kill (fifth), 27.2 shots allowed (No. 1), 33.2 shots per game (third and club record) and 2.43 goals allowed per game (third).
  • McLellan finished as a finalist for the Jack Adams Trophy (third in voting). C Jeremy Roenick ended his career and the season as the third-highest Americanborn goal scorer (513) in NHL history. RW Claude Lemieux, at the age of 43, returns to the NHL after a five-year absence to play in 18 games.
